As traveling across the globe becomes easier and, in some cases, cheaper, there is no shortage of vacation destinations for the avid traveler. That also means, however, that finding a special place, untouched by tourism, will become much more difficult. If you are the type who wants to travel cheaply, and who desires an off-the-beaten-path experience, consider traveling through the organization WWOOF, or Worldwide Opportunities on Organic Farms. WWOOF, and various other similar organizations, enable travelers to connect with farmers who require seasonal help on organic farms. In exchange for 5 to 6 hours of work per day, 5 to 6 days per week, a volunteer will be given both food and lodging. “WWOOFing”, as the work-exchange is typically called, is an excellent way to experience rural life at its fullest, learn the basics of organic farming, while meeting new people, both travelers and locals alike.

That seems an odd statement now with airfares so cheap that it’s not unusual to graduate high school and be blasé about travel.
